Windows 7100 RC1 64 Bit. Is Slower?
I had blue screens and freezing IE8. As far as I know windows does not support PAE. I had WANTED to bring it up to maybe 6GB or even 8GB, as I understand that Windows 7 64-bit can handle (and run better on) LOADS of RAM. I added all of the apps testing one by one and discovered that it was my scanner software that caused the problem. I have to decide whether I want a 64 bit or 32 bit o/s. It means nothing to the average user, except that a clever programmer can use it to make apps a little faster, but it's not a given. I was under the impression that the 64bit version would use all available memory and I would expect it to hit close to the 4GB mark for the Excel process. What I have noticed in the install and operations so far, by log files and background monitoring, using a serial port to another computer, is the driver issues. Can I install the 64 bit upgrade and will it work? My new Dell Studio says it is a 32bit operating system but it does has 4gb ram. It will resolve the problem, no gpu drivers will work, dont try, the bios is the thing. I don't know why it caused this issue but removing it eliminated it. Instructions: MMX,SSE,SSE2,SSE3,x86-64So I guess the x86-64 means a 64 bit processor.
