I went to the Control Panel and then Power Options.I can not find any "display hidden settings" in this panel. I guess this confirms that the Hotfix is still needed and Microsoft has not issued an automatic update to fix the problem.I installed the Hotfix and so far no disappearing problems. I do not think, that it is a problem caused by hardware. Would this maybe be affecting it? http://genepsd.com/hard-drive/missing-space.html

I also get some errors saying that the VDS (Virtual Disk Service) has stopped working.
