Also could be that the type of DVD drive just will not work with the hardware on the mobo. I also have an external old DVD writer drive that is also quirky.The drive's USB cable has two inputs where on is only used for power. April 2, 2012 Jo Hi I have toshiba satellite pc p755 . Once cloned however Bois no longer recognises it but windows does (defraggler, Acronis, disk management and can even directly access content in it). I put my laptop hard drive Seagate ST950042 0AS 500 gb (it stopped working) into external enclouser and plug into my other laptop throughr USB. So I tool the hard drive and connected it to the external case and linked it with my other desktop, retrieved the files from this drive and formatted the drive.
And as i said, windows detects it easily , but not Bios ! I also took the RAM out and cleaned it and slotted it back to its original position. I have a cdrom rw as well as a dvd r/rw drive. The first one was using SATA, and it went through the BIOS and PC.
i tried other cables, exchanging ports i... But I don’t know what to do to make it be recognized. But get this, Windows sees the drive just fine...so I chalk this one up to incompatible hardware and move on. The good news is, the drive is spinning up and not making any odd clicks or grinding sounds.
