No Available Drive Letters For External Hard Drive
I got real strange results when I tried a file restore. Cables get old and the wires inside can break, or pull loose from the connectors. The second was a new 3TB drive. I first noticed it with an 8GB thumb drive. http://genepsd.com/drive-letter/win-7-changing-hd-drive-letters.html
Can someone please explain why this is happening. If that doesn't work, connect the external drive to another USB or Firewire port. The drive letter order can depend on whether a given disk is managed by a boot-time driver or by a dynamically loaded driver. October 28, 2011 Bart @badin I was thinking the same thing! I found a solution for my Hard Disk HP External Drive which was not showing up on Windows 7 64 Bit. Of course, the same issue can be found in other websites or forums since this is a quite common error. Notwithstanding the above, I still have 3 USB drives working, and I hope they continue to do so, while I backup all the data files on them.
